English → Japanese document translation

Japanese translations with a certificate of translation, in as little as 10 minutes.

Upload an English PDF and pay a fixed price. Our translation system translates it into Japanese, and if the translation passes our automated checks against the original, you receive it with a certificate of translation issued by park13 K.K. All online, 24 hours a day.

*10 minutes is a typical time for a 1–2 page document. Longer documents or busy periods can take 30 minutes or more. Some documents can't be processed; if that happens, you aren't charged.

Useful when you're preparing…

  • Residence and visa paperwork

Certificates and records issued in English.

  • Birth and marriage filings

    Certificates issued abroad in English.

  • Permanent residence and highly skilled professional applications

Degree certificates from universities abroad, letters from past employers, and proof of qualifications.

  • Banks and employers

Statements, balance certificates, employment letters and similar documents.

  • Licence conversion paperwork

Some centres ask for driving history or travel records in Japanese. Bring a translation and avoid a second trip.

  • Business documents

Company records and English documents from business partners.

Most licence centres in Japan only accept a translation of the driving licence card itself if it comes from an embassy or consulate, or from a designated body such as JAF. We cannot translate the licence card itself. Please check with the licence centre what they need, including whether supporting documents need a translation.

Whether a translation is accepted is up to the organisation you submit it to. Please check their requirements first, for example what translator details they need or whether notarisation is required.

English PDFs. The electronic PDF you received from the issuer (one where you can select the text) works best and is fastest. Scans and photos (PDF, JPEG or PNG, up to 5 pages) also work, but we may ask you to check what we read after payment, and we can't take every image if it isn't sharp enough.

How it works

  1. Upload your PDF

Choose your English document as a PDF (up to 20 pages and 5,000 words). An electronically issued PDF works best; scans and photos are supported too. The price is calculated from the word count and shown straight away.

  2. Pay the fixed price

Pay by card. Translation starts as soon as payment goes through. For scans and photos, we first ask you to check the names, numbers and dates we read against your original.

  3. Download your translation and certificate

We email you when it's ready. Download the translation PDF and the certificate. If we can't complete your order, you aren't charged.

Uploading and paying takes about a minute.

Every translation is checked against the original before delivery.

Because each translation comes with a certificate, we're careful about how we check it.

Every translation goes through these automated checks:

  • Dates are converted to Japanese format (e.g. 2024年3月5日) and checked by code against the original, reading day/month order according to the issuing country.
  • Names and ID numbers are kept exactly as written in the original (Latin script) and checked character by character. Addresses in Japan are written in kanji only when they match Japan Post's postal code data (with the original alongside); other addresses stay as written.
  • Amounts and numbers are checked against the original figures.
  • In a separate verification step, we compare the translation with the original to look for omissions, additions and mistranslations.
  • If anything can't be read or confirmed, we don't deliver, and you aren't charged.

We would rather decline an order than deliver a translation we're not sure about.

About the certificate

The certificate states that park13 K.K. produced the translation and which original it relates to. It is not a notarisation, and it does not mean the translation is certified or approved by any public authority.

Is this right for you?

A good fit when…

  • You need a Japanese translation soon, against a deadline.
  • The organisation asks for a translation and details of who translated it.
  • You want a fixed price without quotes or emails.

Probably not a fit when…

  • A notarised or sworn translation, or a translator with a specific qualification, is required. Please use a translation agency.
  • You need a translation of the licence card itself. Please use an embassy, consulate or designated body.
  • The document is mostly handwritten, isn't in English, or the scan or photo isn't sharp enough to read.
  • You want to discuss and adjust the wording with a translator.

Frequently asked questions

Will my translation be accepted?

We can't promise that, because each organisation decides for itself what it accepts. Requirements differ: some ask for the translator's details, a signature or seal, or notarisation. Please check before ordering. Our certificate lists park13 K.K. as the issuer, with our contact email and a link to verify it.

How do you translate and check documents?

We translate with our own translation system, which uses AI. Before delivery, dates, names, numbers and IDs are checked against the original by code, and a separate verification step reviews the translation. If anything can't be confirmed, we don't deliver and you aren't charged.

What is the certificate? Is this a certified or notarised translation?

The certificate is a statement from park13 K.K. that we produced the translation. It says how it was produced and identifies the original file by a fingerprint, with a URL and QR code for verification. It is not a notarisation, not a certification or approval by any public authority, and not a sworn translation by a qualified translator. If you need one of those, please contact a translation agency or a notary.

How long does it take?

About 10 minutes for a 1–2 page document. Longer documents or busy periods can take 30 minutes or more. We email you when it's ready, and processing continues even if you close the status page.

What happens if my order is declined?

If part of the document can't be read or a check can't be confirmed, we don't deliver a translation and you aren't charged. When you order, we only place a hold on your card; the payment is completed when we issue your certificate. You don't need to do anything. Depending on your card issuer, the hold can take a few days to disappear.

Which documents can you translate?

We're built mainly for driving records and licence histories, travel/movement records, birth, marriage and similar certificates, bank or business supporting documents, degree and graduation certificates, employer letters and proof of work history, and proof of qualifications. Other English documents (transcripts and so on) are accepted too, but our checks were tested mainly on the types above, so we may not be able to complete every one (if not, you aren't charged). They must be English PDFs, up to 20 pages, 5,000 words and 20 MB in total. An electronically issued PDF (one where you can select the text) works best. Scans and photos work up to 5 pages (see "Can I send a scan or a photo?" below). We can't handle mostly handwritten documents, documents in other languages, or the driving licence card itself. If a document isn't supported, we tell you before you pay.

Can I send a scan or a photo?

Yes, up to 5 pages (a PDF, or JPEG or PNG images, one per page), with some limits compared with an electronically issued PDF. If any names, numbers or dates we read need checking, we ask you to compare them with your original after payment (if you don't within 48 hours, we cancel the order and you aren't charged). Images we can't read clearly and mostly handwritten documents can't be accepted; we tell you before you pay. Checking an upload also takes a little longer. If you can download the electronic PDF from the issuer's website, or ask them for one, we recommend that.

How are names and addresses written?

Names and ID numbers are kept exactly as in the original, in Latin letters; we never guess katakana. When ordering, you can enter the katakana for up to 10 people named in the document, as on their residence cards: those names are then written as the katakana followed by the original, e.g. ジェーン・サンプル(JANE SAMPLE), with a note that the katakana is customer-supplied (依頼者申告). Addresses in Japan that match Japan Post's postal code data are written in kanji, with the original in brackets, e.g. 〒572-0016 大阪府寝屋川市国松町1-1 (original). Other addresses, including those outside Japan, stay as written.

What happens to my document and data?

We use your document only to translate it. To do that, its contents are sent to a contractor outside Japan (currently in the United States; see the Privacy Policy for details). The original, translation and certificate files are deleted automatically 7 days after completion. To keep verification working, we keep a record of the certificate number, issue date and file fingerprints.

What if I find a mistake?

Contact us with your certificate number. We'll look into it, and if the translation is wrong we'll issue a corrected version or refund you in full. Files are deleted 7 days after delivery, so it's best to contact us within 7 days.

How can someone check a certificate is genuine?

Scan the QR code on the certificate or open the verification URL printed on it. You'll see the certificate number, issue date, file fingerprints and whether it is valid. No names or other personal details are shown. You can also check, in your browser, whether a file you have (PDF or image) is identical to the issued file, without uploading it.

Can I get a receipt?

Yes. A receipt is emailed after payment.
